Area Report for Board of Trustees
As of May 7, 2019, Spring Quarter State funded enrollments are 4355.65 FTEs
Core Theme 1: Promote student engagement, learning, and achievement
Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degrees provide a valuable ― and expanding ― avenue for students to pursue credentials beyond the associate degree. This month, Highline received final approval for its sixth — and Washington’s 99th — baccalaureate option. Our new BAS in Integrated Design, the first to be housed in our Arts and Humanities Division, builds upon our associate-level degrees in Interior Design, Visual Communications, and Multimedia Design. Already, over 20 students have expressed interest in the program, which launches fall 2019. Meantime, our second-most-recent addition, the BAS in Teaching and Early Learning, is set to graduate its first class this June, with 16 students working to finish the requirements this quarter. As many as 40 more future teachers may be ready for their fourth-year field experience in 2019-20. Even as we’ve added new baccalaureate pathways, our original quartet of BAS options continues to be healthy, with an especially large uptick in 2019-20 applications for the Respiratory Care degree. At present, Highline’s BAS enrollments total roughly 200 FTES. System-wide, the figure is approaching 3,500.
