Policy Development Council voted for a revised “First Week Course Participation” policy, proposed by Sangeeta Sangha of Faculty Senate. The revised policy has been forwarded to Dr. Mosby for final approval.

  • Global Programs team facilitated the second workshop on logistics for the “Follow the Supply Chain to Vietnam” study abroad students on April 16th. Several local industry experts were invited to provide industry-related presentations to our students.  The workshop was part of a series of pre-trip workshops to educate our students about supply chain management prior to their actual trip to visit Vietnam in September 2025.
  • Facilities is working on improving physical access conditions on campus with new ADA parking spaces and access routes from the East Parking Lot to the sidewalks. In addition, two new ADA door operators were installed in Building 26.
  • Public Safety is conducting a lighting survey around the campus, using the Illuminating Engineering and Society standards for schools and institutions. The results of the survey will be used by our Facilities team to craft a plan to replace or install new light fixtures to improve visibility on campus during the evening/night hours.
  • Public Safety in collaboration with COCM held a “Coffee with Public Safety” event on April 17th with residents at Campus View. The event allowed Public Safety to distribute steering wheel locks to residents and answer questions about safety in the building.
  • Public Safety held a Defensive Tactics Course on March 20th to ensure all officers are taught how to protect oneself and others from harm. The techniques include proper body mechanics, and control of defensive and offensive body movements to control an individual.
  • Facilities invited two students from the drafting program to participate in planning meetings with the Student Activity Center committee.

Core Theme 3: COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS: Create a more inclusive working environment and a more valued, visible relationship with communities we serve

  • Facilities and McGranahan Architects, as representatives of the Student Activity Center Committee, met with the Associate Student Council to discuss a vision plan for the Student Activity Center. Their input will be incorporated as appropriate into our current planning.
  • David Menke attended the Des Moines Police Department advisory board meeting on April 15th at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission in Burien. The meeting was to show the advisory board what current law enforcement training entails and to create new partnerships within the community.

FISCAL & BUDGET

  • John Mosby and I hosted our Campus Budget Forum on April 16th to formally kick off the campus budget planning process. Unfortunately, we still have not received final state budget information.  All indications, however, are pointing to a difficult year ahead for our budget, as preliminary legislative budget proposals included between 3 and 4 percent reductions.
  • The state accountability audit has been completed. Our Finance team will be meeting with the auditors for an exit conference on May 2nd.  Trustee Travis Exstrom will be joining us as well in the exit meeting.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Big congratulations to Sandra Herland on her retirement from the Bookstore on April 15, 2025! Sandra was at Highline College for over 22 years.
