Area Report for Board of Trustees

The past month is highlighted by Thunderbirds Soar- A Highline Experience on October 7. Additional accomplishments include notification that Highline College, along with HPS and FWPS have been accepted into the Limitless Partnership, Comm/Marketing received several awards by national professional organization, the team has been at work raising awareness of the college through creative advertising, and the entire division is committed to building its culture through joint learning and development activities.

Core Theme 1: ACCESS, Reduce Barriers and close equity gaps to access for all community members

In support of access, local advertising campaigns are underway, including a newly produced Youtube ad promoting registration for Winter Quarter,Highline ads on MetroBus Rapid Ride and additional routes in S. King County, kiosk ads at The Commons in Federal Way, promoting the Hub and Highline College, targeted ads for Amazon employees to participate in Amazon Choice and ongoing online ads for the adult learner campaigns.

IA Grants team provided significant support to successful proposal for Gates Foundation Limitless Partnership Program, for which Highline College, Highline Public Schools and Federal Way Public Schools have been approved and accepted into the program. Aim of the partnership is for institutions work focus on key areas (financial aid application completion and expanding number of students who apply and enroll in Highline College) and to work with other participants on best practices for focused populations.

Core Theme 3: COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, Create a more inclusive working environment and a more valued, visible relationship with communities we serve

Thunderbirds Soar: A Highline Experience on October 7th was an incredible evening. The evening was filled with laughter, story sharing, and community building. The Highline College Foundation Board members enjoyed the evening connecting with our community members and employees that attended the event. The Foundation staff team worked tirelessly to ensure a great experience for the attendees, and the IA/Foundation gives their thanks to the Foundation staff team, Sharon Vail, Tanisha Williams, Tatyana Andreychenko, and Ashley Smith for their work as well as appreciation for the Communications and Marketing Team, Printshop, Conference Services, Public Safety, Facilities and members of the campus community who attended. Thanks to Foundation Board Members Sherri Chun and Toni Swenson for co-chairing the FB event committee and the rest Foundation Board: Arnessa Belin, Angela Sheffey Bogan, Moira Fulton, Patsy Gayda, Susan Landgraf, Richard Mockler, Kevin Morin, Perisha Milikich, Dr. Mosby, Diana Sample, and Larissa Sklar for their participation and support. More than 220 people attended, including members and past members of the Board of Trustees. Expenses were covered by sponships. Table sponsors and ticket sales. Approximately $40,000 has been raised to support scholarships and emergency support. Thanks to event and corporate partners including Virgina Mason-Franciscan Health, McGranahan Architects, GESA, BECU, Key Bank and Symetra for support of this event and events throughout the year.

Core Theme 4: CULTURE & CAPACITY: Promote a campus culture which fosters equity and inclusivity supporting employee growth and development, and institutional capacity for transformation.

IA Team is currently focused on an internal division survey to build upon work done over the summer using DISC on how to use work and communication styles to continue to develop the various departments and functions in the division into a more cohesive team where all members are seen and heard in a manner that recognizes their talents and contributions and identifies areas of growth and development.

Division Honors and Achievements

IA extends their congratulations to the Communications and Marketing team for recently winning seven Medallion Awards at the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 7 Conference on Oct. 19. The Team was represented by Tony Johnson, Raechel Dawson and Rachel Hartshorn at the conference and the entire team contributed to these recognized pieces, including Kelly Wong and Kristina Arnold.

Tanisha Williams and Shakira Ericksen attended (along with more than 50 Highline Colleagues) the Faculty and Staff of Color Conference in Vancouver, WA on October 23-25. The HC Foundation is the fiscal sponsor for the FSOCC and performs a variety of financial transactions, including payments, receipt of incoming funds and purchases on behalf of the conference.
