Student Services staff have been leaning in to support students during the winter quarter.
Core Theme 1: ACCESS, Reduce Barriers and close equity gaps to access for all community members
- The Counseling team hosted a quarterly mental health screening day. Counseling staff were able to support and serve over 25 students. Several of the students in attendance at the event scheduled appointments for 1:1 counseling support at the Counseling Center.
- Student Services staff have developed, launched, and implemented a new Student Services Data Dashboard, which collects and compiles student satisfaction data across all Student Services departments and programs. Student feedback is critical towards helping staff understand what they are doing well to support students and helping staff realize where they need to do better to support students. The new dashboard is one of very few that exist within Student Services divisions across the country. Division staff are proud to pioneer the effort and to use the data received to foster continuous improvement and service delivery excellence.
- The Winter Quarter COVID-19 Financial Relief Fund Application, funded by the U.S. Department of Education Higher Education Relief Fund Act (HEERF) was published in February. Through this effort, four hundred students will be funded $1,000 dollars to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and promote student success.

Additionally, the Counseling Center hosted the Tarot for Self-Love event for students. The workshop focused on ways to increase trust in self-intuition and helped to promote the use of imagery in self-awareness and exploration. Approximately 20 students, staff members, and faculty members attended this event.
Core Theme 3: COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, Create a more inclusive working environment and a more valued , visible relationship with communities we serve
- The counseling center participated in the Sacajawea Middle School visit. Two faculty counselors hosted two workshops informing students of ways to identify and manage stress and anxiety. Additionally, the Counseling Center partnered with Olympic College to provide a workshop to students and community members that focused on how to find a therapist and how to engage in meaningful therapy.
- Running Start and Entry Advising staff participated in this year’s High School Counselor Breakfast hosted by Highline’s High School Re-engagement program. The event was strongly attended and laid the foundation for collaborating to advance opportunities for high school students to successfully enroll at Highline.
- The Dean of Advising & Enrollment Services, along with other Highline leaders, attended this year’s Achieving the Dream (ATD) conference in Chicago, IL. This was the first time the conference was held in person in three years. The focus of most sessions was enrollment management, engaging adult learners and innovative retention strategies.
