Area Report for Board of Trustees

Vice President for Administration

  • It is an understatement to say that 2020 has been an “interesting” year. Depending on one’s perspective, many other adjectives, including “unprecedented”, “unbelievable”, “apocalyptic”, “hellacious”, and “omnishambles”, may also be used to describe 2020 as well. And what a year it has been!  From lockdown to social distancing, from Zoom meetings to zoom-bombing, and from asymptomatic to (TP) Armageddon, I could not recall of learning so many new lexicons (or is it “lexica”?) in a given year!
  • The year 2020 however also challenges us to confront many social issues of our times. From systemic racism to income inequality, from voting rights to immigrant rights, and from food insecurity to public health, I have learned of how ignorant that I had been.  This year has taught me that the health, safety and well-being of the community and of others around me are as important to me as mine and my family.
  • As 2020 is drawing to a close, I wish all of the Trustees a blessed holiday season of peace, love, happiness, and health. I am looking forward to working with all of you in an amazing new year 2021.

Facilities

  • Facilities Department has continued to provide support for all of our campus operations, including daily sanitization, mail delivery, and other infrastructure needs during the current working environment.
  • We have completed the move in of the Campus View first-floor office space for Institutional Advancement and Continuing Education in November.
  • It is a pleasure to announce the appointment/reclassification of Jason Huff as our new Maintenance Lead. Jason had been working as a Maintenance Mechanic and a valuable team member of our department for the past several years.

Finance & Budget

  • Finance and Budget continues to work hard on CTClink User Acceptance Testing after completing Data Validation for the steadily approaching GoLive date February 8th.
  • The Finance Team is also preparing for the upcoming financial statement audit visit in December.

Public Safety and Emergency Management

  • Public Safety in partnership with King County public Health and CHI Franciscan opened their newest COVID-19 testing site at Highline College. The testing site is located in the South lot and will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
  • Public Safety staff in partnership with COCM has begun training and meetings between Public Safety staff and Campus View Resident Advisors. The hope in the training is to better understand each other’s roles so that we can best serve student residents. We plan on scheduling joint training to include bias training, verbal de-escalation, mental health first aid and crisis intervention training.
  • The 2020 Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report have been published and distributed to the campus community, as well as being posted on the Public Safety website. We have also reported the Clery statistics to the Department of Education as required by law.
