Area Report for Board of Trustees
Good day Trustees, I hope you all had a nice and relaxing holiday with family and friends. I had my family visit from California for 2 weeks and many of them got to see snow in-person for the first time ever. They also got to experience 3 days of flight cancellations due to weather. But all in all, it was a wonderful time to see family.
And speaking of inclement weather, as a reminder, our campus has a protocol to determine closures or delay of start for classes and services. Many thanks this past week to Public Safety, Facilities and Dr. Pham for their assessment and leadership of the situation for when I receive those 5am recommendation calls. Your work is greatly appreciated as we want to ensure our campus community is always safe.
I want to thank the planning committee who yet again, put on an amazing Black and Brown Summit. This is one of our signature events at Highline College that gathers much media attention. This year was no different. Students from all over the area and state attended and participated in various workshops that were centered around how to foster their success. Our keynote was the individual who brought this program to campus, Rashad Norris – what a great way to honor and thank him for his leadership and vision all these years. I look forward to Y.E.L.L. in spring ’23.
I want to provide another invitation to attend our Building 12 Winter Holiday Open House for Highline Faculty 7 Staff. Please join us in Building 12 next Thursday, December 8th from 12 pm – 2 pm. This is a chance to visit the President, Human Resources, and Administrative Services offices in our new space, spend time with fellow faculty and staff, and enjoy some delicious treats on us! This will be right after our board meeting so we hope to see you all there!
I can’t believe the end of the year is here. I want to thank all our trustees for their support and commitment to the college community this past year. I wish you and your loved ones a wonderful and peaceful holiday season.
John

- ITS is working with Financial Aid to provide more transparent information to students about where they stand in the Financial Aid process, as well as working to find ways to help make the process more efficient.
Core Theme 2: STUDENT LEARNING, Increase educational success, collaborate to improve
- ITS has worked through the fall launch of Aviso (Advising and Student Success support software) to respond to issues and improve the functionality of the tool for all users as we have more faculty and staff working regularly in the system.
- ITS launched a “Report Message” button in Outlook/Microsoft 365 to better enable employees to report suspicious emails for investigation and review, helping make our email security processes more efficient and effective. This works in parallel with new phishing lessons in our IT security training program.
