Area Report for Board of Trustees
Auxiliary Services
- As of this writing, the construction of the Campus View student housing complex is about to be completed. The building is awaiting final inspection approvals. This is a partnership between the Highline College Foundation LLC, as master lessee, and Highline College, as property manager. We are working hard for a Winter Quarter 2019 move-in for our students, as well as in the process of recruiting for a live-in Residence Manager.
- During summer quarter, in partnership with the campus Transportation Coordinator, the bookstore piloted a new Commute Trip Reduction reimbursement program. Students utilizing mass transit are eligible for a reimbursement of $60 bookstore gift card per quarter. We had issued 10 student reimbursements for the summer quarter and 29 so far this fall quarter. Participating students have expressed positive feedback as many had applied their gift cards toward the cost of textbooks.
Facilities
- Building 26 Renovation project is proceeding as planned. We are currently engaging the State Arts Commission in the selection process for a public-work artist as required by all major construction projects.
- In an effort to re-imagine our space utilization for more efficiency to best serve our students, we have been conducting some preliminary space planning for the areas to be vacated after the completion of B-26. We are currently in the process of soliciting input to develop a set of recommendations.
Finance & Budget
- The State Financial Audit has been delayed until the beginning of December to accommodate the auditor’s schedule.
