Area Report for Board of Trustees
Welcome to the 2nd half of fall quarter – time is flying by. Students are busy attending classes (in person and virtually), faculty are providing exceptional teaching, and staff are serving our students at the highest level possible. Even in times of numerous challenges in higher education, our campus continues to rise and strive to serve our communities in the most authentic and kind way.
As I mentioned to the campus previously, Dr. Jamilyn Penn will be joining Highline as our new Interim Vice President of Student Services, beginning on November 15. We are excited to have Dr. Penn and her years of experience and service within our Washington system. A seasoned educator, I look forward to her leadership of the Student Services division. She will be joining the trustee meetings beginning in December and I look forward to all of you meeting her.
In addition, I’m pleased to announce that we are bringing back quarterly constituent group updates for our Classified Professionals, Exempt Professionals and Faculty employee groups. As we strive to make sure campus updates and information is provided in a transparent and timely manner. Our meetings began last month at the quarterly faculty meeting and will continue in November with our classified and exempt groups. This will also be an opportunity for discussion between individuals and Executive Cabinet. More information will be coming as the date approaches.
I’m meeting shortly with the new Central Washington University (CWU) president, Dr. A. James Wolport. Our meeting, while making introductions will also discuss how to further our collaborative efforts in terms of services and programs. This CWU/Highline partnership is a strong one that benefits both institutions and I look forward to identifying new opportunities with this new administration.
In conclusion, I want to remind folks, including our trustees, to take care of your health during this time of year with colds, flu and COVID. Our campus continues to educate and offer resources such as flu/COVID vaccine clinics on campus and provide timely updates to keep campus informed and safe. I wish you a wonderful week and month.
