Area Report for Board of Trustees

The Equity, Diversity, and Transformation (EDT) Division is charged with embedding equity in everything we do at Highline College. Below are updates of the ongoing work.

Core Theme 1: ACCESS, Reduce Barriers and close equity gaps to access for all community members

• On August 11, the Black Student Advocacy Team (BSAT) hosted Tap In: Are You Ready for Fall?, a one-stop student support event designed to help students prepare for a successful Fall Quarter. Students were able to receive assistance with advising, financial aid, registration, attend workshops, and other campus resources in one location. More than 100 students attended the event, connecting with campus staff and resources to address barriers and ensure they were prepared to begin the quarter.

Core Theme 4: CULTURE & CAPACITY, Promote a campus culture which fosters equity and inclusivity supporting employee growth and development, and institutional capacity for transformation.

• The Vice President of Equity, Diversity and Transformation (EDT), Director of Institutional Equity Strategies & Initiatives, and Dean of Academic Alignment & Strategic Transformation attended the inaugural Equity Convening: A Systemwide Gathering for Shared Alignment & Action. The convening brought together nearly 100 equity leaders and practitioners from across Washington’s Community and Technical College (CTC) system to align efforts, elevate promising practices, and collectively inform equity work through shared learning, strategic dialogue, and sustained collaboration. The gathering provided an opportunity to help shape systemwide equity priorities and implementation strategies while building a relational community of practice grounded in shared responsibility, continuous improvement, and collective impact.
