Core Theme 3

Build valuable relationships … within Highline College’s communities

Service is a traditional component of the faculty role. Highline’s faculty are no exception. In addition to serving the college and their professional organizations, many instructors lend their skills to the wider community’s needs. Bob Baugher (psychology) is an outstanding example. A nationally-recognized expert on grief and loss, Dr. Baugher gave 17 workshops and lectures on those topics to ten community and national organizations in 2017. Additionally, he co-authored a book with five widowed people and a nurse consultant entitled: “Surviving Widowhood: Suggestions from Widowed People to You for Coping with the Death of Your Husband, Wife or Partner.” At the invitation of the Bobby Reciniti Healing Hearts Foundation, Dr. Baugher traveled to Parkland, Florida, to participate in “A Day of Healing” for the Parkland community on May 20. While Dr. Baugher’s record is extraordinary, it is by no means singular. Closer to home, Charly Cohen (math) was honored by the Federal Way branch of the American Association of University Women for her work as an educational inspiration and role model.
