The Student Services Division has been actively engaged in submitting grant applications.
Grants that have been submitted include the following:

Grants that have been approved for FFY21 – FFY 23 include the following:
Student Emergency Assistance Grant Program (SEAG) $302.666 SEAG was approved FFY 21 and funds are expended through FFY23
Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness (SSEH) $196,500 SSEH was approved FFY 22; an additional $25,000 was awarded May ($221,500). Grant funds can be expended through FFY23.
The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) awarded Highline College’s Running Start program with Emergency and Secondary School Relief (ESSER) funds. Running Start staff are communicating with regional high school counselors and outlining the benefits of the funding for students who plan to enroll in the College’s Running Start program. High School Counselors will need to submit their list of interested students to OSPI by June 10th.
Highline College, Highline Public Schools (HPS) and their community partners have been awarded a grant for $1,596,798 over two years by the King County Department of Human and Community Services and Puget Sound College and Career Network. HPS and Highline College will work closely with grant partners Northwest Education Access (NWEA) and Becoming a Man (BAM) of Southwest Youth and Family Services. The grant program—King County Promise—is a public-private partnership engaging King County school districts to develop a comprehensive student support model, supporting historically underserved young people to obtain postsecondary credentials. The four organizations are forming the Highline Promise Partnership. The funding will provide enhanced college and career exploration and experiences, family engagement, post-secondary transition support, and intensive retention and completion services for males of color starting in 10th grade through degree or certificate completion.
Strategic Enrollment
Enrollment for Summer/Fall Quarter 2022 is now underway. Enrollment for currently enrolled students began May 12th and new student enrollment began May 23rd. Students were communicated about their enrollment appointments and steps to enroll by email, ctclink, text message, and Canvas notifications.
The Pathway Advising department developed “Let’s Get Enrolled!” workshops to support students with selecting and enrolling in classes. Workshops were offered May 16 to 23 to support currently enrolled students enroll for summer/fall quarters.
Entry Advising is now offering Explore Highline (new student orientation program) for new students enrolling for summer and fall quarter. Sessions are offered virtually and in-person during daytime, evening, and weekends. Videos are being filmed for orientation that will teach students about Highline Degree Pathways and allow students to explore.
Pathway Advising, in collaboration with Entry Advising the Highline Library will support new students enrolling for summer/fall quarter during enrollment workshops following Explore Highline sessions.
Running Start has redesigned and implemented the Running Start New Student Orientation program, which is scheduled to launch in Fall 2022. The orientation will support all new Running Start students by helping them to enroll in classes and acclimate to the college. Additionally, Running Start has concluded informational sessions for prospective Running Start students and family members interested in enrolling for Fall 2022. A total of 91 prospective students attended informational sessions in preparation for fall quarter enrollment.
The Financial Aid Department communicated to campus via email on May 12th with the steps for students to request their summer financial aid. Students interested in receiving financial aid assistance for Summer term must complete the Summer Aid Request Form. The form must be submitted no later than June 26, 2022, and students were strongly encouraged to submit their form as soon as possible.
Service Delivery Excellence
On May 10th, Registration & Records provided training for staff and faculty to learn about the updated graduation application process in ctclink.
The Admissions Department provided training to staff on residency classification. The Entry Advising Department provides campus tours as a new service provided by Peer Connectors.
Running Start completed updating Running Start course equivalencies for 2022-23. Running Start staff worked with faculty to compile classes that will be proposed to school districts as courses that the school district personnel will approve as recognized equivalencies.
Sarah Trimm convened a work group of staff who employ Peer Connectors (student employees) with the goal of increasing collaboration among departments to streamline training and leadership development and to promote cross-collaboration and networking opportunities for students Peer Connectors.
EDI Framework
All departments in the Student Services Division participated in Highline College’s Equity Development Institute on May 6th. Departments had further discussion and reflection during department meetings in the weeks following the institute.
Staff in the Transfer Advising department help to organize and coordinate the Young Women Advocating Change (YWAC) Summit, which was held on May 14th. The YWAC summit was an opportunity to engage white, female-identifying students in conversations around EDI and anti-racism.
International Student Programs is engaged is actively engaged in recruiting strategies to increase enrollment for the program. To that end, the department is using new marketing and EdTech software to help with recruitment. This includes ISC Research who provides live data on international schools that can inform and guide ISP’s marketing and outreach efforts to our target international markets. The company is a reliable source of data on market development, trends, and shifts. More importantly, ISC Research provides access to database which includes data on over 12,000 international schools and contact information of school staff across all academic functions and seniority levels. ISP has is also working with the Study USA and using the WeChat App. Study USA publishes magazines for students, academic advisors and the international education community seeking information about American education. Study USA has strong online presence attracting serious international students seeking information about admission requirements and housing information. WeChat app-ISP will use WeChat in China to officially build presence and establish brand awareness among prospective students and their families. It increases ISP’s visibility and an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about Highline’s educational programs and college activities.
ISP End of Year Celebration (June 15th, 12-2pm)-This is a celebration for our international students who are graduating and also celebrating outstanding students and achievements. We do this one a year for our students.
Athletics
Highline College’s student-athletes and coaching staff have had great success this year. For example, they earned the following distinctions:
Women’s Tennis won the NWAC Championship; Laura Rosa was recognized as Coach of the Year; Mia Rosa Player of the Year, Single Champion, Doubles Champion, and NWAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year; Meredith Udovich NWAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Year; and Steve Mohn NWAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year
