Area Report for Board of Trustees
The Institutional Advancement division is made up of the following groups: Communications and Marketing (CM), Outreach and Recruitment (OR)*, Grants and Government Relations (GGR), Foundation and Alumni Relations (FAR). IA is involved in many different areas on and off Highline’s campus, ranging from promoting our College at local high schools, assisting with writing grants for key programs and raising money for student support and special projects, or skillfully crafting advertisements to placement on or in wide array of medium such as busses, billboards and movie theaters. Institutional Advancement is there to do just that: advance our institution. Our 2022-2023 reports to the board will focus on our goals and objectives identified in Institutional Effectiveness Reports (IE). The SBDC/Startzone and COE for Global Trade and Supply Chain Management also report through IA and updates on these programs and their goals will be shared periodically.
*By July 1, 2023, Outreach and Recruitment (OR) will be part of the Student Services division, and their activities/achievements will be captured in VP-SS Board Report.
Core Theme 1: ACCESS, Reduce Barriers and close equity gaps to access for all community members
- HC Foundation received 411 applications for scholarships for 2023-2024. Review is underway and awarding and notification will occur during mid-June.
- Web Team officially began work with Modern Campus to begin work on website migration to Omni CMS Platform. First phase is to build out the top-level domain and share a timeline with campus about a student focused, centrally managed website.
- Communications and Marketing is collaborating with AA to create a series of targeted campaigns, including microsites, online and social medial advertising and prospective student for BAS Programs and Business, Stem, Cybersecurity and Legal Studies.
Core Theme 2: STUDENT LEARNING, Increase educational success, collaborate to improve
- Dave O’Keeffe, Grand Development, collaborated with Sherri Chun and Bruce Lamb (AA) to work with SBCTC on endorsing the Paralegal Program. A program must receive an official endorsement to be officially designated as a “Career Launch” program and is then eligible for significant funds to expand. Legal Studies was identified as a solid Career Launch program because it is a high demand field and our industry partners are committed to paying students as they intern at various legal firms in the area. We are also working with ECE to have that program endorsed.
- Highline College Foundation with Nursing and Medical Assistant Faculty met with Foundry 10 to review the results of their first year grant of $46,000 for all nursing students in their final quarter to take Kaplan’s NCLEX Preparation Course which is designed to ensure students succeed on the NCLEX- RN® and to reimburse MA students who took the MA-C state exam. Additional funds available to provide emergency and gap support for allied health students. Team is currently working with Foundry 10 on year two grant.
- Washington State Department of Social and Health Services’ Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance (ORIA) recently announced that our $849,983 application for the LEP Pathway – English Training and Education Services program was moved forward for budget consideration for State Fiscal Year 2024 (July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024). After a competitive evaluation process, Highline College was been selected as one of the successful applicants.
Core Theme 3: COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, Create a more inclusive working environment and a more valued, visible relationship with communities we serve.
