Area Report for Board of Trustees

The academic year is quickly nearing the end.  But the college is quite busy preparing for fall planning starting with the beginning of our “Return to Campus Sessions.”  In these information sessions, we will be discussing opening the campus in phases for student-facing services and instruction, identifying the steps taken in planning for employee and student safety, and how do employees submit questions or provide feedback throughout the planning process.  These sessions are designed to keep faculty and staff informed of our return.  If your schedule allows, please feel free to attend.  We will also tape the sessions so folks can review at any time.

I have some wonderful news to share.  I have accepted invitations to sit on 2 boards: Trustee for the Children’s Home Society of Washington and Local Workforce Development Board member for Seattle-King County.  I have long wanted to serve on boards throughout the Puget Sound to represent Highline College, higher education, and our community in various capacities.  I’m excited about these new opportunities and establishing more relationships with our external partners through King County and Washington state.

The rest of the quarter is packed with events and programs as we move closer to commencement – a different affair this year for our students but due to the amazing work from our commencement committee, this event will be a memorable and special one for our graduates. Please look for additional information regarding commencement and ways to get involved in celebrating our students.

Lastly, the legislative session has now concluded.  Many thanks to the students, staff and faculty who testified for various bills – it made a significant difference.  And looking at the budget for next year, I’m more optimistic that I was at beginning of session.  Budget planning for Highline still remains a priority I’m hopeful that we will continue to collaborative, listen and make good choices for the sake of our entire community.

Have a great week and month!
