Strategic Enrollment
Spring is an important time for connecting with prospective Running Start students planning to enroll for Fall. The Running Start team held informational webinars for prospective students and parents on March 1st, 3rd, 23rd and 29th. Additional sessions will be offered in April. Additionally, advisors visited Highline Choice Academy to hold an application workshop in which future students were assisted through the application process. Running Start held graduating senior workshops/group advising sessions on March 8th and 16th to help students understand degree requirements, graduation application processes and steps to prepare for transfer. Finally, Running Start made phone calls to all students enrolled in Winter who had not yet enrolled for Spring.
International Student Programs (ISP) is partnering with several software platform companies for the purposes of increasing enrollment. Sinorbis is a Chinese website company that will drive prospective Chinese students to a dedicated Highline College website that is in Mandarin. Applyboard and Edagree are edutech companies that attract international students to their website that would highlight our campus. We are already seeing traffic coming from these websites and hope for an increased student conversion rate in the next several months.
Campus View concluded the winter quarter with 116 student residents. As of March 28, Campus View currently has 121 residents for spring quarter occupancy.
The Center for Leadership and Service and Center for Cultural and Inclusive Excellence opened applications for the 2022-23 CORE Student Leadership team on March 7th. The departments will be hiring for numerous positions and prospective student candidates will partake in an interview process in May. Applications are due Apr 22, 2022.
Women’s Programs along with partners AAUW (American Association of University Women), and Tech-Bridge hosted the 2022 Youth STEM Conference. The event goal brought together middle school students and families together to promote access and educational opportunities in the STEM field. We would like to thank the Women’s Programs team, our partners, and faculty Amelia Philips who served as our keynote speaker. The conference was held virtually, Saturday March 26th.

Service Delivery Excellence
The college sent text messages to 499 students who applied for Spring quarter but who had not completed new student orientation. Students were encouraged to sign up for the final orientation session prior to the quarter beginning. 75 students responded by signing up. In total, 157 students have participated in Explore Highline orientation for Spring and have chosen an initial Degree Pathway of interest.
Campus View has hired new Resident Assistant for spring quarter
Campus View hosted finals week study break snacks and treats provided for all residents in residence Lobby on March 22 & 23.
Student Union (Building 8) hours were modified to meet the needs of students requesting space on campus to dine and build community. This is possible in partnership with Public Safety to open the building on Fridays as Student Services is virtual.
Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness (SSEH) has served 299 students with backpacks and school supplies between fall and winter quarter. Highline has been approved for an additional $25,000 for FY22. Additional funds will support other accommodations such as laundry funds, lockers and mailboxes Emergency funding
Development and Integration of (EDI) Framework
International Student Programs (ISP) met with the University of Papua two weeks ago to engage in talks regarding collaboration efforts. Dr. Pham, Jesse Aspree, and Michael Gruberg were present from the Highline College side. There were some promising possibilities such as students coming to Highline for certificates, 1+1+2, or a BAS. Officials of the University of Papua will advocate for funding through meetings with the Indonesian government. We currently have 12 students funded through the Indonesian government.
The Center for Cultural & Inclusive Excellence launched the Students of Color Conference (SOCC) application. SOCC supports students of Washington State community and technical colleges to become more active proponents of their own education, life choices, and to expand the opportunities and possibilities for students to become agents of change. The application is open to all Highline Students. This 2-day conference will be held virtually April 21st and 22nd and CCIE will be providing 30 students an opportunity to attend. Athletics
The Winter Sports season has ended with the Men’s Basketball Team reaching the NWAC Finals Tournament, bowing out to the number 1 seed Wenatchee CC. Spring Sports have begun with Women’s Golf and Women’s Tennis; Women’s Tennis has played 7 matches, two of which have been against NWAC Teams. They are currently undefeated in the NWAC. Last home match is May 7 at 11am at the Boeing Employees Tennis Center; Women’s Golf will be hosting a NWAC Invite Tournament April 3 & 4 at Twin Lakes CC, our home course.
New Personnel
Prairie Brown began the role of Interim Director of the Advising Center on April 1st. Prairie is transitioning from a teaching role and brings many years of experience teaching and directing student support services. Laura Holt began as Credentials Evaluator 3 and Anh Phong began as Program Coordinator: Records and Transcripts in Registration in Records.
Three new staff members have been hired that are vital to the operations of International Student Programs (ISP). Marie Elguira will be heading up our international recruitment and marketing area. Marie is charged with increasing international student enrollment and brings a lot of experience within that field with her. Adrian Ellison is our new admissions coordinator responsible for processing applications and answering admissions questions. Koda Hendricksen is our newest addition to the advising team and will primarily focus on special populations as well as marketing assistance.
