Area Report for Board of Trustees
Happy New Year 2023 to all of the Trustees! May your new year be filled with success, happiness, fun, and laughter.
Between the long winter break and all the inclement weathers in late December, I would like to forgo my usual area report format for another version that is probably low in both style and substance. I promise to adhere to the standard report format in February.
- The inclement weathers with the snowstorms in the last two weeks of December presented some major challenges for on-campus operations. We had to essentially move to remote/virtual operations for most of the winter break due to icy conditions on campus.
- As part of our mid-year reviews, Administrative Services departments met (separately as each unit) to discuss the progress of our respective Institutional Effectiveness reports. In addition, all departments have begun the process for departmental strategic planning.
- In response to the increasing number of electric vehicles on campus, we are expanding the number of EV charging stations on campus for the first time in almost of decade. Facilities has installed additional power trenches in the South Parking Lot for the installation of BLINK EV chargers in the next few months.
- Public Safety and Campus View Housing staff held a joint training on Thursday, January 5th to provide Public Safety Officers and Resident Advisors with common understanding of standard operating procedures and protocols in responding to incidents at the Campus View.
- Public Safety also worked with South King County Fire Department to complete our annual inspections of all fire extinguishers, as well as emergency horns and strobes. The inspections are required by local ordinances to ensure the safety of employees and students during an emergency.
- Budget and Grant Services is going “TikTok” by creating two “how-to” videos to assist employees with generating monthly budget reports and reconciling P-cards.
Lunar New Year will fall on January 22, 2023, of this year. It is the Year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese Zodiac. However, in Vietnam, it will be celebrated as the Year of the Cat. As such, “Kung Hei Fat Choi” and “Chúc Mừng Năm Mới”!
