Area Report for Board of Trustees
Since the December Board meeting coincided with the end of Winter Quarter, this month’s IA Report provides brief updates on grants with Gates Foundation and Port of Seattle, support of the AA Dacum for Business Management, hosting/sponsoring of SSCCLC Legislative breakfast, and the release and distribution of a holiday greetings video.
Core Theme 1: ACCESS, Reduce Barriers and close equity gaps to access for all community members
- The Grant team has worked in support of several proposals this fall and have received word that we are finalists in two different projects. One is a partnership with PSCCN, Highline Public Schools, Federal Way Public Schools, Tukwila Public Schools and some CBOs to build on work to increase college going rates and focus on intensive advising for students from BIPOC communities. The second grant is from Port of Seattle and is a collaboration between the Welcome Back Center, ELCAP and ANEW to provide resources for construction training and engineering credentials for individuals with experience in prior countries.
Core Theme 3: COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, Create a more inclusive working environment and a more valued, visible relationship with communities we serve
- IA provided support to AA DACUM for Business Management on 12/15/23 by helping promote, invite and welcome business representatives to participate.
- IA provided support as Highline College was a site host / sponsor of the South Sound Chambers of Commerce Legislative Coalition Annual Breakfast and Legislative Update. Approximately 100 community members from local cities, businesses and organizations attended as well as 5 statewide elected officials to discuss upcoming legislative session and the SSCCLC focus on transportation, childcare and workforce education.
