The division of Student Services operates on 3 Core Functions: Access, Supporting Student Success, and Engagement with a focus on equity.
The goals of student services for the 2019-2021:
Goal 1: Increase Access and Enrollment (Getting students on a Path – Entry & Onboarding)
Goal 2: Increase progression and completion (Keeping Students on a Path – Retention & Completion)
Goal 3: Design and implement a holistic Advising Model that supports students from entry to completion (Pathways Advising)

Student access, retention, and success
- While In School Housing (WISH)-Partnership with King County Housing Authority to house 40 homeless students with King County vouchers.
- WISH info sessions: 1/14; 1/16; 1/22; 1/29
- Enrollment to begin Winter quarter
Student Engagement:
- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. WeeK will be held Monday, January 21- Friday, January 24, 2020. The theme this year is Radical Vision 20/20: Reclaiming Our Past, Rewriting our Present, Re-imagining Our Future featuring 9 events, including a day of service. MLK Week is a signature CCIE programming series that focuses on exploring and celebrating the teachings and legacy of Rev. Dr. King, Jr. through keynote speakers, workshops, and professional development
- International Student Program welcomed 50 international students to Highline’s campus for winter 2020. The New Student Orientation and Activities were held on the week of 12/30/2019 to 1/3/2020.
- Center for Leadership & Service and Center for Cultural & Inclusive Excellence welcome Highline students to campus through a series of programs called ThunderWeek Winter Welcome. As students start their Highline experience throughout the year, so this is an opportunity for all of us to extend the message of welcome and belonging to students who are starting during Winter Quarter, as well as a reminder to returning students about ways they can get connected on campus. ThunderWeek Winter Welcome will encompass the first two weeks of Winter Quarter, from January 6-17. Our theme for ThunderWeek for the year is “Start Here. Soar Here.”
ThunderWeek Winter Welcome Schedule
Monday, January 6, 2020: Welcome Table, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Building 6 East Parking Lot entrance. The Associated Students of Highline College executive team and volunteers will be welcoming students back to campus with free coffee, hot chocolate, and cider.
Tuesday, January 7, 2020: Center Open House, 9 to 11 a.m., Highline Student Union (Building 8), The Center, 3rd floor. Decorate your own tote bag, enjoy free breakfast, and explore ways to get involved in leadership and social justice opportunities.
Monday, January 13, 2020: Inter-Cultural Center Social, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Highline Student Union (Building 8), Inter-Cultural Center, 2nd floor, Room 204. Explore the Inter-Cultural Center space and learn about ICC programs. Light snacks provided.
Tuesday, January 14, 2020: Global Jam, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Highline Student Union (Building 8), The Bistro, 2nd floor. Join the Global Student Ambassadors for an open mic and karaoke night. Free snacks and beverages for the first 100 students.
Thursday, January 16, 2020: Clubs Fair, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Highline Student Union (Building 8), Mt Constance/Olympus. Make the most of your college experience! Get to know the Highline community by exploring clubs and campus resources.
Staff Professional Development:
- The division of Student Services launched an initiative for team building for fall quarter 2019. Friday afternoons were reserved for Student Services departments to present and showcase how they work with students to be successful. The professional development series was highly successful with positive feedback from staff. The staff stated that having an environment to connect, collaborate, network, and to get to know one another have been invaluable to team building.
